I have always wanted to be an artist, even when I was a little girl, and I have always made art in some shape or form.

I trained in Fine Art Illustration at City and Guilds of London Art School, graduating in 1993 and I have been a practicing artist ever since.

I am lucky enough to have a studio in a beautiful part of Devon and I try to get there as often as I can, which is almost everyday. I love my life as an artist and although it can be hard at times, both physically and mentally, it is also incredibly rewarding. I can now reflect on my career so far and think about all the paintings and drawings that I have made that now hang in all sorts of places; homes, galleries, offices.

In my practice, I don’t have a plan on where a painting might go, I don’t have a sketch or an image in my mind, I just start to draw or I might simply start with a pool of ink on a beautiful coloured background and then I start to get a feel for where the painting wants to go. My absolute love of white ink and drawing with a dip pen have been part of my practice since I was at art college. Taking these two simple elements and really pushing them to create big drawings has always excited me.

Nature will always be my guide, under the sea, the darkness, the hidden world inside a sea urchin shell. The black trees against the white sky in winter all combine to inspire me everyday.

I hope you enjoy my website, if you would like to discuss a commission or would like to visit my studio in East Devon, please get in touch.
